Amy Adams There is definitely something very special about Amy Adams. She’s a versatile talent and her approach to acting is natural and fresh. On screen she is absolutely irresistible – she simply sparkles! Perhaps co-star Meryl Streep says it best: “Amy has a little light on inside her that burns — sometimes a soft light, sometimes a hot little blue flame, but you are aware always of the light. It is her immediacy as an actress, that present quality that makes her special.” An actress with a knack for light comedy, Amy Adams was born in Italy and raised in Castle Rock, Colorado. After high school, she studied dance and worked in regional dinner theater until age 20, when she moved to Minnesota with her family after being spotted by a visiting Minneapolis producer and recruited to work in his dinner theater there. She landed her first film role in the satiric 1999 comedy Drop_Dead_Gorgeous, which was, appropriately enough, set in Minnesota. Adams decided on a professional acting career, and appeared in several films, including Catch Me If You Can and Cruel Intentions 2. She has also guest-starred in such television shows as The Office, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, The West Wing and Smallville She has also done small films, such as Psycho Beach Party. Adams has received critical acclaim for her role in the 2005 film Junebug. Among the awards she has won for the role are the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the National Society of Film Critics award for "Best Supporting Actress" and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female. Additionally, she was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress - Motion Picture. In January 2006, Adams was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the role. Amy has twice won the Delta's Choice Award - both times for Best Supporting Actress - the first in 2008 for Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and again in 2009 for Doubt.
