There Will Be Blood
Review - " There Will Be Blood  " (in theatres) - By Ken Ellis

"There Will Be Blood"
A Paramount Vantage release.
Directed, written by Paul Thomas Anderson, loosely based on the novel "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair.
Starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano.

While a 2 hour 38 minute character study doesn't sound like a lot of fun, a rock-solid, five star performance by Daniel Day-Lewis makes
this more than worth it. He literally becomes Daniel Plainview, a rather despicable person and the subject of this film. While the story of
the early days of oil drilling in America's southwest is a decent one, it is Lewis' acting that is really center stage here. He appears in
virtually every scene in the film and is fascinating to watch as his character sinks deeper into the evil world he carves out for himself.
While making his millions in oil, he alienates everyone he meets ("I hate most people", he says at one point), including his own offspring.
The wonderful direction by Mr. Anderson moves this long film along quite nicely and keeps us watching. This film is as good as anything
out there now and better than most.
