Gorgeous views of mountains and glaciers abound. Of course when you travel by train you are required to get pictures of the front and back (below) as
you go around a curve. We sure do pass through some pretty country up here.
As the Alaska Railroad winds it's way through the mountains the view from our
Goldstar glass dome is spectacular. We just came up that track you can see to
the left. We have to go through a series of 'S' curves in order to climb up
through the mountain pass.
Bush planes are very common throughout Alaska. You see lots of float planes
as well as planes with wheel & skis for ice and snow landings. Many areas in
Alaska can only be reached by plane some places that do have roads can only
be reasched by plane during the 7 1/2 months of winter. 1 in 60 people has his
pilots license. You can get your license at age 16 and many teenager learns to
fly before they learn to drive.
Light purple fireweed grows wild all over.  Fields and fields of it can be seen
running up the sides of mountains and alongside the railroad tracks.
Fireweed jelly is made from these local flowers.

Everywhere you look there are wild flowers in abundance.
